Dietz Little Wizard Lantern | Quinn's Mercantile
R.E. Dietz Company was a lighting products manufacturer best known for hot blast and cold blast kerosene lanterns. The company started in 1840 when its founder, 22-year-old Robert E. Dietz purchased a lamp & oil business in Brooklyn, NY. Though famous for well-built indoor & outdoor kerosene lanterns, Dietz also produced the majority of road work warning lights.
First produced in 1913, the Little Wizard was commonly sold to contractors for marking highway barricades. Streamlined from 1936 to the end of production in USA in 1956 when the company moved all lantern production to Hong Kong.
Although lacking its original globe, this Little Wizard lantern is a great vintage find and a beautiful part of how our country paved its way to greatness!
